'A Bird in the Head', by Dragana Jurisic

VULGO loves photographer Dragana Jurisic’s “surreal documentary” style, as manifest here in her ongoing series, “A Bird in the Head”, which, if you are lucky enough, you can also follow on her facebook page.

Ten of these democratic slice-of-life images, taken with the Hipstamatic iphone app, were selected and blown up for UK exhibition “Rituals of Recreation”, in The Photographic Angle Touring Exhibition, 2010- 2011.

Dragana’s work can also currently be seen in the USA, in “Disruptive Stillness”, at the Jean Paul Slusser Gallery, University of Michigan.

Intriguingly, Dragana is currently reading for a PhD in Photography at the University of Wales, Newport, on Irish writer Rebecca West’s three trips to former Yugoslavia (where Jurisic is from), from 1936 to 1938, as documented in West’s travelogue, “Black Lamb and Grey Falcon”.

We’ll keep you posted as to when Dragana’s work (maybe her Fairy Fort series, with any luck), will be exhibited in Ireland, where she has been living for nearly twelve years now. In the meantime, you can keep up with this interesting artist’s output at www.draganajurisic.com, or befriend her on facebook…

You can also buy Dragana’s book, “Seeing Things”.

Seeing Things is a beautiful piece of work. I believe it’s to be exhibited in Droichead Arts Centre in Drogheda this coming June…
